Current (not recruiting)

GPS is an anonymous online survey that seeks to understand where Victorians met their last partner.  This will help us target programs to reduce sexually transmissible infections in areas of greatest need.

About the study

High numbers of gonorrhoea and syphilis cases are reported in some outer Melbourne local government areas (LGAs). However, these geographical locations only reflect the residential location of the person, which may not reflect the location where they had sex or met their partners. Therefore, we would like to understand where people meet their recent sexual partners and explore how far people travel when meeting a partner.

Ethics

All research in Australia involving humans is reviewed by an independent group of people called a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).  The ethical aspects of this research project have been approved by the Alfred Hospital HREC.

This project will be carried out according to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007). This statement has been developed to protect the interests of people who agree to participate in human research studies. Approval has been given by the Alfred Hospital HREC which reviews ethics applications for research carried out at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre.

Who we want to talk to

Any person aged 16 years or older who is currently living in Victoria, Australia.

What’s involved

You are invited to complete an anonymous online survey which takes about 3-5 minutes. No information will be collected that could identify you.

If you complete the survey, you will be asked whether you would like to enter a lucky draw to win an AU$50 ColesMyer gift card. Ten gift cards in total will be won. If you are willing to enter a lucky draw, you will be redirected to a separate survey to enter your contact details: name, mobile number and email address. Your contact details will not be linked to your responses to the main survey. Once the prize draw is completed and the winners are contacted, the list of contacts will be permanently deleted. You cannot enter the lucky draw unless you complete the survey. We anticipate that the lucky draw will be conducted in June 2022.
