We undertook to understand the current knowledge of and attitudes towards mpox among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men.

Summary

We conducted an online anonymous survey in August-October 2022 to examine community understanding of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), attitudes towards vaccination, and potential changes in sexual practices among 537 gay and bisexual men who have sex with men and transgender people in Victoria, Australia.
Most (98%) had heard about mpox.
37% had been vaccinated against mpox.
Of the unvaccinated individuals, 68% reported they intended to get mpox vaccine.
HIV PrEP users and those who had attended sex-on-premises venues in the past 12 months had a higher intention to receive the mpox vaccine.
