We are an expert sexual health clinic in Melbourne. Our focus is the sexual health needs of the Victorian community, improving sexual health capacity in primary care in Victoria and sexual health research.
Everyone is welcome at Melbourne Sexual Health Centre. Our team aims to provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment where anyone can get free, high quality sexual health care. We support the LBGTQI+ community. You can be who you are at Melbourne Sexual Health Centre!
Our clinicians play an instrumental role in screening and testing for STIs and HIV, STI and HIV prevention, education and counselling.
Our team of health care providers includes:
- 26 doctors
- 38 sexual health nurses
- 3 counsellors
The health care team is supported by 15 staff members in administrative and clerical roles, IT support, pharmacists and medical scientists.
The pharmacy services at the Centre are co-ordinated by Alfred Health Pharmacy.

Professor Doctor Jason Ong PhD, MMed (First Class Honours), MBBS, FAChSHM, MAICD
Director
Professor Dr. Jason Ong is a distinguished academic and sexual health physician dedicated to advancing research and improving health outcomes for marginalized populations. With a rare combination of expertise as a clinician, health economist, and epidemiologist, he leverages his diverse skill set to address complex public health challenges. His research focuses on amplifying the voices of underserved communities and tackling taboo topics to promote informed decision-making and policy development.
Since 2019, Professor Ong has served as an advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO), contributing to global efforts to eliminate HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as public health threats. In addition, he holds leadership roles as Vice-President of the Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM) and as a Board Director of Health Equity Matters, reflecting his unwavering commitment to equity in healthcare.

Prof Marcus Chen FRCP, FAChSHM, PhD
Medical Services Manager
Marcus is Adjunct Professor at the Central Clinical School, Monash University, a specialist in sexual health medicine and Medical Services Manager at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre.
Marcus has published 300 papers on sexually transmissible infections in a wide range of journals and has a research interest in syphilis and gonorrhoea. He is currently lead investigator on an NHMRC Partnership Project grant focused on improving testing and control of syphilis.

Ria Fortune MPH, PGCertSexualHealth, RN Div 1
Nursing Services Manager
Ria has a Masters Degree in Public Health, a Post Graduate Certificate in Sexual Health, further studies in immunisation and project management and is a registered nurse.
In 2020, Ria was project manager of a successful pilot partnership between Melbourne Sexual Health Centre and general practices to develop increased STI clinical services throughout Victoria under a Hub and Spoke model.

Operations Manager
As Operations Manager of Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Alison brings over 13 years of experience in Client Service and Operational roles across Alfred Health. Alison has a Graduate Certificate in Health Administration and is responsible for the financial planning and operational support of our service.
