What is it?

A skin tag is a benign outgrowth of normal skin, typically pedunculated, fleshy and mobile. Skin tags tend to occur at sites of friction (neck, armpits, groin) and may be associated with increasing age, obesity, pregnancy or resolved external haemorrhoids.

Management

  • Skin tags may be removed for cosmetic reasons by cryotherapy, surgical excision, diathermy or ligation.
  • Surgical excision is not ideal as it may be complicated by delayed healing or regrowth of the anal tag.
